Most tourism in Agra runs on volume — big groups, fixed scripts, a guide you meet for four hours and never speak to again. I built The India Unscripted because I grew tired of watching visitors leave the Taj Mahal having heard the same rehearsed facts everyone else hears, and none of the substance underneath.
I was born and raised in Tajganj, Agra — the neighbourhood that sits in the literal shadow of the Taj Mahal. My family has lived here for generations. I didn't learn this monument from a textbook; I learned it by growing up beside it, watching the light change on its marble every single day of my childhood.
In my twenties I pursued the IITG Pan-India Tour Guide license, one of the most demanding professional certifications in Indian tourism, issued directly by the Ministry of Tourism and the Archaeological Survey of India. It required years of study in Mughal architecture, Indian art history, and cultural heritage — and it's what allows me to guide legally and knowledgeably anywhere in the country, not just Agra.
Somewhere along the way I also picked up fluent Spanish — a decision that has quietly become one of the things travellers thank me for most, because so few licensed guides in India can hold a genuine, nuanced conversation in it.
The India Unscripted isn't a travel agency with a guide attached. It's the reverse: a guide, with the travel logistics built around him, so that the person leading your tour is the same person who planned it, priced it, and will be there from your arrival to your departure.
La mayoría del turismo en Agra funciona por volumen — grupos grandes, guiones fijos, un guía que conoces por cuatro horas y nunca más vuelves a hablar. Construí The India Unscripted porque me cansé de ver visitantes salir del Taj Mahal habiendo escuchado los mismos datos ensayados que todos escuchan, sin nada de la sustancia real detrás.
Nací y crecí en Tajganj, Agra — el barrio que literalmente está a la sombra del Taj Mahal. Mi familia ha vivido aquí durante generaciones. No aprendí este monumento en un libro; lo aprendí creciendo junto a él, viendo cambiar la luz sobre su mármol cada día de mi infancia.
En mis veintes obtuve la licencia IITG Pan-India de Guía Turístico, una de las certificaciones profesionales más exigentes del turismo indio, otorgada directamente por el Ministerio de Turismo y el Servicio Arqueológico de la India. Requirió años de estudio en arquitectura mogol, historia del arte indio y patrimonio cultural — y es lo que me permite guiar legal y conocedoramente en cualquier parte del país, no solo en Agra.
En el camino también aprendí español con fluidez — una decisión que silenciosamente se ha convertido en una de las cosas por las que más me agradecen los viajeros, porque muy pocos guías con licencia en India pueden sostener una conversación real y matizada en este idioma.
The India Unscripted no es una agencia de viajes con un guía anexado. Es al revés: un guía, con la logística de viaje construida alrededor de él, para que la persona que dirige tu tour sea la misma que lo planeó, lo cotizó y estará presente desde tu llegada hasta tu partida.
