Full Day · Private · Bespoke · All Inclusive

Rajasthan is the most intricately crafted region in India — five centuries of Rajput and Mughal patronage produced a tradition of luxury craft that has no equal on earth. Hand-blocked cotton at family workshops established in the 17th century. Uncut emeralds and Polki diamonds in the lanes of Johari Bazaar. Miniature paintings executed with brushes of a single squirrel hair. This private full-day tour is not shopping — it is the education that makes every purchase meaningful, guided in English and Spanish by a licensed expert who knows exactly which door to knock on.

One Day Inside Five Centuries of Royal Craft

Every stop on this itinerary is chosen not merely as a place to shop, but as a living museum: a workshop where techniques unchanged since the Mughal courts are still practised by hand, a bazaar where knowing the history transforms a transaction into a conversation, and a palace that explains why everything produced here looks the way it does.

01
Morning · 9:00 AM
Hotel Pickup & Journey Briefing
Your private AC vehicle collects you from your Jaipur hotel or Jaipur Junction railway station. En route to the first destination, Kamran gives you the essential context: the founding of Jaipur by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727 as one of the world’s first planned cities — and why its grid of craft bazaars, each dedicated to a single trade, was by royal design rather than historical accident. Understanding this turns every market visit that follows into something entirely different. You will also receive Kamran’s personal briefing on the “zero-commission” principle that governs this entire tour: every vendor you visit has been selected for quality and fair pricing, and Kamran receives no financial benefit from any purchase you make.

02
Morning · 9:45 AM
Amber Fort & Palace Complex
We begin not in the markets but in the palace — because you cannot understand what Rajasthan made without first understanding who commissioned it. Amber Fort, perched on a ridge above the Maota Lake north of Jaipur, was the seat of the Kachhwaha Rajput dynasty for six generations before Jai Singh II moved the capital. The fort’s Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors) is the supreme example of Rajput decorative art — its ceiling composed of thousands of convex mirror fragments set in plasterwork so fine it was applied with peacock feathers. Kamran walks you through the Diwan-i-Aam, the zenana chambers, and the Ganesh Pol gateway, explaining how each element of the craftsmanship you will encounter in the markets today originated in commissions like these.

Late Morning · 11:30 AM
Anokhi & Block-Print Atelier Visit
The art of hand block-printing — dabu, bagru, and sanganeri — has been practised in the villages surrounding Jaipur for over 300 years. We visit a working family workshop in the old city where craftsmen carve the wooden blocks, mix natural dyes (indigo, madder root, pomegranate rind, iron rust), and stamp fabric by hand at a rate of approximately two metres per hour. You watch the full process, handle the carved blocks, and understand exactly why authentic hand-blocked fabric looks and ages so differently from screen-printed imitations. From here we visit Anokhi, the benchmark retailer for quality hand-printed textiles in Rajasthan — where Kamran advises on quality verification, thread counts, and how to distinguish resist-print from direct-print at a glance.
Atelier Visit · Live Demonstration
04
Midday · 1:00 PM
Lunch at a Heritage Haveli
A sit-down lunch at a carefully selected heritage haveli restaurant within the walled city — a former merchant mansion converted into a dining space where the architecture itself is part of the experience. Authentic Rajasthani cuisine: dal baati churma (the definitive dish of the Rajput warrior kitchen), gatte ki sabzi (chickpea-flour dumplings in a spiced yoghurt gravy), ker sangri (desert beans and berries native to Rajasthan), and laal maas (the famous red mutton curry of the Marwar royal kitchens). Kamran uses this pause to answer every question the morning has raised and to brief you on what the afternoon holds. Note: lunch costs are not included in the package price and are paid directly at the restaurant.
Heritage Venue · Lunch Not Included
05
Afternoon · 2:15 PM
Johari Bazaar — The Gem District
Jaipur is one of the world’s three great gem-cutting centres — alongside Antwerp and Bangkok — and the only one where you can walk directly from the cutter’s workshop to the trading street in a matter of minutes. Johari Bazaar has been Jaipur’s jewellery quarter since the 18th century. Kamran takes you first to a trusted gem workshop where you observe craftsmen cutting and polishing emeralds, rubies, and sapphires under magnification, learning to identify quality by colour saturation, clarity, and cut precision. From there, you visit two or three carefully selected jewellers — vetted for authenticity and fair pricing — where Kamran provides expert guidance on Polki (uncut diamond) work, Kundan settings, meenakari enamel technique, and how to distinguish hallmarked silver from silver-plated base metal. No commission is paid to Kamran by any jeweller visited.

06
Afternoon · 3:45 PM
Miniature Painting Atelier
Rajasthani miniature painting — the Kishangarh, Bundi, and Jaipur schools — is one of the most technically demanding art forms ever practised. The finest brushes are made from three squirrel tail hairs bound together; a single small painting can take a master craftsman three months to complete. We visit a working studio inside the old city where a family of hereditary painters (chitera) continues a tradition passed from father to son for eight generations. You watch a painting in progress at various stages of completion, learn to read the iconography (the use of lotus, peacock feather, and particular colour conventions to identify subject and school), and understand the markers that distinguish an original miniature from a tourist-market reproduction. Original works are available for purchase directly from the artists at studio prices.
Live Demonstration · Studio Prices Direct
07
Late Afternoon · 4:45 PM
City Palace & Hawa Mahal
As the afternoon light turns gold over the Pink City, we visit two of Jaipur’s defining architectural monuments. The City Palace — still the official residence of the descendants of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II — houses one of the finest textile and weapons museums in Rajasthan, including an extraordinary display of royal garments in silk, gold thread, and hand-embroidered brocade that places the craft traditions of the day in their full royal context. Then the Hawa Mahal — the “Palace of Winds” — built in 1799 with 953 small windows to allow the royal ladies of the zenana to watch street processions unseen. Its five-storey pink sandstone facade, designed to resemble the crown of Lord Krishna, is the most reproduced image in Rajasthan and one of the most extraordinary pieces of architectural design in all of India.
Tickets Included · Royal Textile Museum
08
Evening · 6:00 PM
Drop-off & Kamran’s Personal List
Your private AC vehicle returns you to your Jaipur hotel, railway station, or onward to another destination if your journey continues. Before you part, Kamran gives you his personal written recommendations — additional workshops, ateliers, and trusted vendors you may wish to visit independently over subsequent days in Rajasthan. This is not a generic list; it is Kamran’s own contacts, built over years of professional relationships, passed on to you with complete transparency about pricing and quality. The craft of Rajasthan is inexhaustible — one day opens the door. The list ensures you can continue walking through it alone.

Optional Extension · On Request
Blue Pottery Studio & Carpet Weaving Workshop
For those who wish to extend the day, Kamran can arrange visits to two additional craft centres available on request. Jaipur Blue Pottery is unique to this city — unlike Chinese or Persian blue-and-white ceramics, it is made not from clay but from powdered quartz, glass, and Multani mitti (Fuller’s earth), and fired at a lower temperature that produces its characteristic translucency. Separately, a visit to a traditional Dhurrie (flatweave carpet) or pile carpet workshop — where you watch the knotting process on a vertical loom, learn to count knots per square inch as a quality marker, and understand the iconographic language encoded in Rajasthani carpet geometry. Both extensions add approximately 90 minutes to the tour and are arranged at the time of booking.
Optional · Request at Booking

What Makes This Different

01
Strictly Zero Commission
Most “shopping tours” in Rajasthan are secretly a commission circuit. Kamran receives no financial benefit from any purchase you make. Every vendor visit is driven entirely by quality, craft, and your interest — not by Kamran’s margin.
02
Heritage Before Shopping
The tour begins at Amber Fort — not a market. You understand the royal commissions that created the craft traditions before you encounter the craft. This transforms every purchase from a transaction into an act of connoisseurship.
03
Artisan Access
You do not visit showrooms. You visit working family workshops — the block-print atelier, the miniature painting studio, the gem-cutting room — where the craft is actively being made. These are Kamran’s personal contacts, not tourist-circuit shops.
04
Expert Price Guidance
Kamran knows fair market value for textiles, gems, jewellery, and paintings in Rajasthan. He advises you in real time — without pressure — so that you never overpay and never leave uncertain about what you have bought.
05
Bilingual Guide
Kamran speaks fluent English and Spanish — a rare combination in Rajasthan. Spanish-speaking travellers experience the palaces, craft traditions, and bazaars of the Pink City entirely in their own language, at full depth.

Viator
★★★★★

“I have been to Jaipur three times and I thought I knew it. Kamran showed me an entirely different city — workshops I had walked past without seeing, jewellers I would never have trusted without his guidance. I bought a miniature painting directly from the artist at a fraction of what the gallery was charging. This is not a shopping tour. It is an education.”

GetYourGuide
★★★★★

“The zero-commission promise is real — I tested it. Kamran steered me away from a purchase I was about to make because he said the quality was not worth the price. That kind of honesty is worth more than the tour itself. The Amber Fort in the morning light with his context was breathtaking. An unforgettable day.”

“Hicimos el tour completo en español. Ver la técnica del block printing de cerca y entender la historia detrás de cada pieza fue revelador. Kamran sabe exactamente cuándo hablar y cuándo dejar que los artesanos muestren su trabajo. Compramos tejidos que jamás habríamos encontrado solos. Perfecto.”

What to Bring
Items to Carry on the Day
Essential items: • Cash in Indian Rupees (INR) — the majority of artisan workshops, bazaar vendors, and small jewellers operate cash-only. ATMs are available in Jaipur but plan to carry ₹5,000–20,000+ depending on your shopping intentions

• A credit or debit card — accepted at established shops (Anokhi, larger jewellers) and the heritage haveli restaurant

• A medium-sized tote or soft bag — for textiles and smaller purchases; Kamran advises against hard-sided luggage for markets

• Closed-toe walking shoes — Amber Fort involves significant stone staircase climbing; bazaar cobblestones are uneven

• A light scarf or stole — required for temple areas within Amber; also useful as a dust layer in bazaars and doubles as a first textile purchase if you buy one

• Sunglasses and sunscreen — Rajasthan has intense sun; the Amber Fort approach and Hawa Mahal exterior are fully exposed

• A small notebook or notes app — you will encounter names of workshops, techniques, and artisans that you will want to record for future reference and for Kamran’s recommendations list

• Smartphone or camera — the Sheesh Mahal, the block-print workshop, and the miniature painting studio are among the most photographable interiors in India; check monument photography policies on arrival

• A WhatsApp-enabled phone — Kamran communicates all logistics, updates, and vendor contacts via WhatsApp; ensure roaming data is active before arrival

• Government-issued photo ID — required for monument entry for foreign nationals (passport or a clear photograph of it on your phone is sufficient)

• An open mind about what you intend to buy — travellers who arrive with a fixed list often leave having bought something entirely unexpected. The artisan visits regularly change what people want. Leave room in your plans and your bag.

Kamran Khan

The Rajput courts understood something that the modern luxury industry is still trying to learn: that the most extraordinary objects are made when a craftsman has a patron who understands what they are making. Every block-print workshop, every miniature painting studio, every gem cutter’s room in Jaipur today is the direct descendant of a royal commission. My job is to be the bridge that makes that lineage visible to you.

I hold a Government Pan-India IITG licence — the highest certification in Indian tourism — and I have guided more than 500 tours across Rajasthan and Delhi over more than a decade. My relationships with the artisan families in Jaipur have been built over years of consistent, honest referrals. They trust me because I have never sent anyone to them with false expectations, and I have never taken a rupee from them in return.

When you leave Rajasthan with something you bought here — a length of hand-printed fabric, a miniature painting, a piece of jewellery — I want you to be able to tell the entire story behind it. The craftsman’s name. The technique. The tradition it belongs to. The dynasty that first commissioned it. That story is worth more than the object itself.
